- Biography:
- Gervais Habarugira is a veterinarian committed in the teaching and research in the area of Veterinary Pathology and Infectious Disease. He currently holds a position of Assistant Lecturer at the School of Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of the University of Rwanda. He holds an advanced diploma of Animal Health (2006), Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine degree (2010) from the Higher Institute of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry (ISAE) (Currently College of Agriculture, Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine, University of Rwanda) where he focused on the investigation of prevalence and pathology of bovine mastitis, bovine tuberculosis (bTB) and their economic impact in Rwanda. He obtained his Master of Veterinary Science in the Field of Veterinary Diagnostic Pathology (2016) from The University of Queensland, Australia. He previously attended a Summer School under theme “Integrated Management of Transboundary Diseases for Inclusive Economic Growth” Makerere University with the main focus on collection and analysis of pathological samples in wildlife and domestic animals as well. He also trained in animal disease diagnostic and bovine artificial insemination. He routinely provides One Health expert guidance to Rwandan veterinarians and farmers on zoonotic infectious diseases. He has collaborated with various organisations and individuals locally, regionally and internationally in the field of veterinary pathology and zoonotic infectious diseases. He has published several papers in peer reviewed journals. His research interests include pathology of infectious diseases including but not limited to bovine tuberculosis, toxoplasmosis, mastitis, brucellosis, pathology of viral infections (retroviruses, flaviviruses), pathology of liver, lung and kidney.
