What is the Global Threat? With the Rise of the Human revolution, the resources available on the earth were continuously consumed. But Earth’s natural resources have been used in ways that are economically inefficient and wasteful. How did it happen? In today’s world, due to factors such as,…… • Increase in population density. • Rapid urbanization. • Massive industrial growth. • Inadequate food. • Depletion of resources. We are in the early stage of damaging the environment due to overconsumption and now it is time to seek for remedies. Because it is very clear that entire world has started facing environmental threats and are all now in a situation where the life of future generation is in question. Thus, the developmental activities are unsustainable for global ecosystem. But we cannot stop these activities. For the development of the nation, these activities are essential. Industrial growth is directly related to nation’s economy. Construction of major and minor irrigation projects and development of new power plants must not be frozen. What is Sustainable Development? The concept of Sustainable Development is now brought into action” sustainable development has been defined in many ways, but the most frequently quoted definition “Sustainable Development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generation to meet their own needs”(Brundtland Report). Today it is recognized as a national responsibility of every citizen to contribute to the Sustainable Development with their regular lives. Before thinking wider about it, let’s start the facts from our personal life. Think how many of you are using energy saving equipments, eco-friendly vehicles? Has your business minimized the usage of higher energy consumption equipment? Starting from the household consumption of energy, we have to think about the resources as a nation. The following can be identified as main objectives of the Sustainable Development concept….  Population stabilization.  Protection of forest areas and revitalization.  Conservation of bio-diversity.  Control of pollution in water and air.  Development of non-polluting renewable energy sources.  Recycle of wastes and residues.  Environmental education and public awareness.  Implementation of environmental protection laws. How does it help? Some of the Earth Environment Protect Organization projects can be considered as good example.(EEPO in Sri Lanka)  The Green City Project The Green City Project for control the atmospheric carbon dioxcyde (CO2) percentage. That affected to global warming. Mainly Use the Plant unit to build up the green city. This project main target is urbane area. This plant unites are build up on every walls in the urban area. The plants are using there is no long high and no more spread roots. But it has more leafs for high photosynthesis and reduced carbon dioxcyde percentage from atmospheric.  Green Charcoal Project The green charcoal project to Preventing in-house pollution, the charcoal can be used either as renewable household energy or in the agronomic field as Biocharcoal/Agrichar, increasing soil fertility substantially and ecologically. Moreover, through this the combustion of agricultural residues as traditionally performed in the baseline, which leads to a reduction in CO2, CH4 and N2O emissions, is largely avoided.  Create an Air and Solar Power Engine project This Engine is help to control the environmental pollution. Mainly it will help to protect atmospheric of earth. When work the engine solar power use to start the engine and air power use to charge the battery for supply the power to engine continually.  The wetland conservation project Wetland conservation is aimed at protecting and preserving areas where water exists at or near the Earth's surface, such as swamps, marshes and bogs. The benefits of wetland conservation; wetlands offer many benefits to wildlife, waterfowl and people. A few of these benefits include:Sourceof income, Water quality improvement and sediment filtration, Habitat for wildlife, Flood reduction, Water Supply and Recreation and aesthetics. Including a eco-friendly production method, economical consumption and less damage to the environment, recycling…etc. there are many other methods identified to help this concept. But the problem lies with the real world implication. Since this is a global threat it is considered all of us are accountable in protecting the available scarce resources for the future generation too. This feeling should come from each individual so that a one whole nation and many nations together can make a global difference. The most important thing is that a will to make these plans a reality must be rooted deeply in our hearts with a great sense of responsibility. The dream of a beautiful world is a right of future generation. Now we are at a crucial point. The actions of those living today will determine the future tomorrow and also the survival of all inhabitants.
