- Biography:
- Maggie Munthali is a young soil scientist currently working for the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Management as an Assistant Regional Forestry Officer since 2010. She has vast experience in forest management, agroforestry and integrated soil fertility management (ISFM). Prior to this, she worked with the Ministry of Education and RAIPLY as Secondary School Teacher and Sawmill Production Supervisor respectively. She holds MSc in Sustainable Soil Resource Management obtained from the University of Nairobi, Kenya and BSc in Forestry from Mzuzu University, Malawi. She is a member of the American Society of Agronomy(ASA), Crop Science Society of America (CSSA) and Soil Science Society of America (SSSA) which is a scientific and professional society of agronomists and scientists of related disciplines. She is also an African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) fellow. AWARD is a career-development program that equips top women agricultural scientists across sub-Saharan Africa to accelerate agricultural gains by strengthening their research and leadership skills, through tailored fellowships. In June 2014, graduated as a LEAD (Leadership for Environment and Development) fellow, Cohort 19. LEAD fellowship programme is a world-class training programme that gives emerging leaders the skills, knowledge and network of contacts to bring about transformational change for a sustainable future. As an Assistant Regional Forestry Officer, she is responsible for managing, coordinating, monitoring, evaluating and implementing all the activities related to in the Central Region of Malawi. Maggie is planning to pursue either PhD in Environment and Geography or PhD in Geosciences if she manages to secure a scholarship.
