- Biography:
- I, Dr. Rashed Noor, have been working as Assoc. Prof. & Chair in the Dept. of Microbiology, Stamford University Bangladesh since May 20, 2010. After completion of my graduation and post graduation from the Dept. of Microbiology, University of Dhaka, I joined GlaxoSmithKline operations, Chiattagong site in April, 2000, and achieved several foreign training on operational & corporate excellence. In October 2003, I started my higher studies in Yamaguchi University, Japan. In 2006, I finished MS degree in molecular biology and received Ph. D degree in 2009 in the same discipline with 3 publications (1 in Genes to Cells, and 2 in the Journal of Molecular Microbiology and Biotechnology). During my MS & Ph. D research, I studied on the mechanism of programmed cell death and lysis in the bacterium Escherichia coli. I also served as a postdoctoral researcher in the same university for a year (April 2009 - March 2010). Afterwards another paper related to the sigmaE- dependent cell lysis pathway was published in Genes to Cells in 2012. During my MS, Ph. D and post doctoral tenure in Yamaguchi University (Oct. 2003 - March 2010), I vigorously worked with mutagenesis, transduction, RT-PCR and western blotting. As a teaching assistant, I used to provide advice within the field of my research to students and other members of the research team. I used to analyze the research data and drafted the manuscripts for publication. I participated in the overall research project management, designed and carried out experimental work independently, and contributed intellectually to the research direction. However, I joined the Department of Microbiology in Stamford University Bangladesh in May 2010 as an Assistant professor & Chair. Since then I have been engaged in the administrative activities required for the smooth maintenance of the department. I have been involved in teaching our undergrad and graduate students on various fields of microbiology, biotechnology, biochemistry, molecular biology, and computational biology. Besides teaching the relevant subjects in Microbiology, I started research on basic and clinical microbiology and created several academic collaborations with national and international research organizations. I got a research grant from the Bangladesh Ministry of Science in the public health sector. I lunched the first departmental journal entitled “Stamford Journal of Microbiology” in 2011, and since then I have been serving as the Executive Editor of the journal. In 2011, I also got the award of teaching excellence and have been promoted to the position of Associate Professor. From 2012, I extended my research interests to the infectious diseases including tuberculosis, and also initiated experiments on food safety. I have a sound research team consisting of the faculty members of our department and till date I supervised more than 70 undergrad and MS research students. My recent research record (2012 - till date) might be evidenced by my recent publications in several reputed journals like the journal of Infection and Chemotherapy, Tzu Chi Medical Journal, Journal of Pure and Applied Microbiology, International Food Research Journal, International Journal of Mycobacteriology, Journal of Microbiology, Biotechnology and Food Sciences, Journal of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences and Bangladesh Journal of Botany. In total, till date I have 32 papers in different national and international journals. My professional memberships include the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), Japan Molecular Biological Society (JMBS), New York Academy of Sciences, Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS) and International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB). Since 2003, I attended several international conferences. I would like to also add that recently I completed the international leadership development program in UK arranged by the British Council focusing on the teaching excellence, and it is to be mentioned that I have been serving as the teachers' trainer in my university as a part of the faculty development program for the last 3 years. I feel myself to be developed oral and written communication skills and I have the ability to develop positive relationships with students and colleagues at all levels including implementing 'cutting edge' research that would lead to innovative, multi-disciplinary interactions across the academic environment. I have the level of understanding of equal opportunity principles and policies. Finally, I have a strong desire to continue my academic career in teaching and research on microbiology, molecular biology, biochemistry and biotechnology. My academic experience together with my corporate and administrative exposure may lead me run a department or a research unit effectively if I am given the opportunity.
