- Biography:
- I am a Research Assistant at the University of Michigan specializing in the fields of toxicology, environmental health, and epigenetics. My dissertation research involved the study of genetic factors underlying the immense variability observed among human populations in the metabolism and elimination of mercury. Mercury is a potent toxicant of which human populations are primarily exposed via fish consumption and dental amalgams. My postdoctoral and current research focuses on environmental epidemiology and epigenomics with the goal of identifying epigenetically labile genomic regions that contribute to environmentally-induced disease susceptibility at various life-stages (in utero, early childhood, and adulthood).The epigenome is made up of heritable yet somewhat reversible modifications 'on top of' the genome that control gene expression and regulation. I also have a keen interest in the impact of environmental exposures, particularly to heavy metals, on cardiovascular and metabolic health outcomes.
