- Bontha V. Babu is currently Scientist-F (Senior Grade Deputy Director General) in Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi, India. Currently, he is on the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Expert Panel on Parasitic Diseases and WHO/TDR’s Scientific Working Group on Lymphatic Filariasis. He is a health social scientist, and received a Ph.D. degree in anthropology and Postgraduate diploma in applied statistics from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, India. He is specialized in the use of qualitative and quantitative data in community-based studies. His area of interest is community-based interventions for health promotion and disease prevention. He has expertise in disease control program development and evaluation; cultural epidemiology and ethnography; program management and training; health education and communication strategies, and so on. Earlier, he worked in Orissa on projects related to a global program to eliminate lymphatic filariasis and women’s health, receiving funding from WHO. Presently, he is involved in funding and management of projects on health systems research and coordinating a collaborative nation-wide intervention study on migrants’ access to health care in 13 Indian cities. He published about 130 papers in national and international journals, and about a dozen book chapters.
