Biography:
Dr. Kithsiri Janakantha Senanayake is a Sri Lankan Board-Certified Consultant General and Endocrine Surgeon, and Senior Lecturer in Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka. With over 15 years of experience in surgical practice and academic teaching, he is recognized for his significant contributions to endocrine surgery, surgical education, and global surgical research. Dr. Senanayake earned his MBBS from the University of Kelaniya with multiple distinctions, followed by an MD in Surgery from the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo. He is also a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (MRCSEd) and holds the Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery (FMAS). His clinical training spans several leading institutions in Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom, including Oxford University Hospitals and Lister Hospital, Stevenage, where he specialized in thyroid and parathyroid surgery. As a surgeon and academic, Dr. Senanayake is particularly committed to improving access to quality surgical care in underserved areas, leading hybrid outreach clinics in rural Sri Lanka. An accomplished researcher, Dr. Senanayake has co-authored numerous high-impact studies as part of the GlobalSurg Collaborative. His work has been published in renowned journals such as The Lancet, BMJ Global Health, and The British Journal of Surgery, focusing on global variations in surgical outcomes, surgical site infections, and endocrine pathology. Notable publications include: Global variation in postoperative mortality and complications after cancer surgery (The Lancet, 2021) Co-secretion of aldosterone and cortisol in Conn’s adenomas (British Journal of Surgery, 2020) Surgical site infection after gastrointestinal surgery in children (BMJ Global Health, 2020) His full list of publications is accessible via his Google Scholar profile and ResearchGate. Dr. Senanayake serves on several editorial boards and has received multiple academic accolades, including the President’s Award for Scientific Publications, International Society of Surgery Travel Awards, and Deans’ Awards from Rajarata University. He is also actively involved in surgical skill development workshops and continues to innovate low-cost surgical training tools. Beyond his clinical and academic duties, Dr. Senanayake holds roles such as Council Member and Editor at the College of Palliative Medicine Sri Lanka and Section Editor-in-Chief of the Archives of Medicine.
