Biography:
Mr. Alex Bimbo Onatunji could not find out what a career in forestry looks like on his resumption to the University of Ilorin in 2014 until he sought advice and mentorship. He faced the problem headlong and has tried to support thousands of forestry students in Nigeria and across Africa in discovering their passion and career within the forestry sector through a variety of activities. He has taken on leadership positions, organized several events, carried out research on forest education topics among others on local, national, and international level. In 2020, he received a scholarship to study the International Erasmus Mundus Master Programme in Mediterranean Forestry and Natural Resources Management (MEDfOR) at the University of Lleida, Spain, and the University of Padova, Italy. By August 2021, he was the lead author of a published book titled ‘Building a Successful Forestry Career in Africa: Inspirational Stories and Opportunities" by the International Union of Forest Research Organizations, Veinna, Austria. More than 600 copies of the book have been distributed freely to more than 42 institutions in 22 countries, translated into French, and available to download online freely. He recently completed his Masters degree and thesis on “Impacts of COVID-19 Pandemic on teaching and learning Forest Science in Africa and Europe: Lessons learned from case studies” in October 2022 and worked as an in-house consultant at the European Forest Institute, Bonn Germany in 2022. Alex have held more than 15 leadership positions in local, national and international organisations and have published more than 30 articles as blog reports, book, book chapter, conference proceedings, journals, and technical reports.
