Resource of the Week #8: From the Association of American University Presses
Hello! Greetings from the American city Baltimore, where I’m attending the Association of American University Presses (AAUP) annual meeting. I’ll be giving a talk here about INASP projects, including AuthorAID.
For this meeting, I looked at the AAUP website. The resource section of this website includes resources for authors, scholarly publishers, libraries, and others. Let me mention some of the resources that might interest AuthorAID users.
The section Finding a Publisher includes a grid listing main subject areas of interest of AAUP member presses. This grid can help in finding a suitable publisher for one’s book.
(Just as one wouldn’t submit a physics paper to a sociology journal, one shouldn’t, for example, submit a book manuscript in economics to a university press that doesn’t publish in this field.)
Even if you’re seeking to publish elsewhere than an American university press, the concept of matching publisher and subject area is important to remember.
The section for authors also includes a set of FAQs on permissions and copyright. Included are sample letters for seeking permission to reprint text or illustrations.
This website also contains other fine resources. Thank you, AAUP!
Until the next post— Barbara
