Resource of the Week #199: JournalMap
Hello again. This week’s resource is called JournalMap. The AuthorAID director, Julie Walker, suggested featuring it.
As stated on its homepage, “JournalMap is a scientific literature search engine that empowers you to find relevant research based on location and biophysical attributes combined with traditional keyword searches.” It aids in finding environmental knowledge.
In JournalMap, research articles are tagged based on locations reported in them. They then are plotted on a world map. Researchers wanting to find what is known—for example, about a particular landscape or species—can search JournalMap.
JournalMap also helps researchers find articles on geographic areas resembling those they are studying. For example, researchers can search for studies on areas with similar climates, landforms, and soils.
After creating accounts on JournalMap, researchers can contribute their own articles and collections. Publishers too are encouraged to add their publications to JournalMap.
Other features of JournalMap include collections of articles on specific topics or from specific journals, opportunity for authors to generate maps showing the locations of their research, and links to articles providing more information about JournalMap.
As noted on its website, JournalMap has a Creative Commons license (a type of copyright license discussed in last week’s resource post).
Thank you, Julie, for mentioning JournalMap.
Until the next post—
Barbara
