Resource of the Week #195: Some Online Courses for Authors, Editors, and Reviewers
Hello again. This week’s resource is the PKP School, a set of online courses in scholarly publishing. PKP stands for Public Knowledge Project.
The PKP School currently offers 5 courses. The course likely to interest the largest part of the AuthorAID community is titled Writing for Publication. Among titles of the other courses are Becoming an Editor and Becoming a Reviewer.
Each course consists of a series of modules. Often the modules include links to videos from other sources. Modules also include links to readings.
Users can either audit the courses or register for a certificate of completion. One can audit the courses for free. Those auditing a PKP course can either complete all the modules or focus on only some modules.
To obtain a certificate of completion, one must pay a fee, complete all course components, and do some associated activities.
The PKP courses are self-paced. One can start them at any time and proceed at whatever speed one prefers. Those taking the courses can share their thoughts through the comments boards in the courses.
I was glad to see on the PKP School homepage that the courses were created with support from INASP (where AuthorAID is based). I encourage you to look at these courses.
Until the next post—
