Resource of the Week #170: WAME’s New Website

By Barbara Gastel | Jul. 13, 2014

Hello again. Last month, the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) announced that it had a new website. Whereas its previous site was hosted by journals, it now has a site entirely of its own.

WAME consists mainly of editors in charge of content of biomedical journals. Scholars doing research on medical editing also can join. Membership is free. Potential members must apply and be approved.

WAME has about 2000 members, from over 1000 journals in over 90 countries. Its resources include a lively email discussion list and the new website. This website can aid authors as well as editors.

The website includes a section titled “Policies and Resources”. Among items in this section are links to

  • sets of resources on research ethics and publication ethics
  • sets of resources in languages other than English
  • the SAMPL guidelines for statistical reporting

The website also lists upcoming conferences. Those currently listed include the 2014 Asia Pacific Association of Medical Journal Editors convention, to be held August 15–17 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

The WAME president said that having the new website will help with items such as educational programs. I look forward to seeing the WAME website continue to develop.

Until the next post—

Barbara
