Where Should I Publish or Present My Work?

By Barbara Gastel | Aug. 08, 2009

“Where should I publish or present my work?” researchers often wonder. A variety of resources can help answer this question.

The AuthorAID presentation “Publishing a Journal Article” includes advice on choosing journals. This presentation is available in English, Spanish, French, and Chinese. We expect it to be available in Arabic soon.

This week, Julie Walker at INASP mentioned 4 resources that can help researchers find places to publish or present their work. One is a website listing calls for papers (requests for papers) for special issues of journals published by Emerald.

Another is a website presenting calls for papers in the field of English. The calls are both for oral presentations and for written papers. A third website includes calls for oral and written papers largely in computer science.

An especially interesting resource that Julie mentioned is called Journal Finder. This resource is provided by ResearchGATE, an online network for scientists. To use it, you need to register for ResearchGATE, at https://www.researchgate.net/.

To use Journal Finder, log in to ResearchGATE, then click on “Literature”, and then click on “Literature search”.  In the box at the bottom of the page (under “Journal finder”), paste an abstract of your research. Then, after you click on "Search", Journal Finder will list some journals that might be suitable.

For example, I hope to publish articles about AuthorAID. Therefore I pasted into the box a description of AuthorAID. The resulting list of journals included some good possibilities.

Wishing everyone a good week—

Barbara
