Resource of the Week #167: The Online Course “OpenKnowledge”
Hello again. This week’s resource was suggested by Julie Walker, the INASP staff member who directs AuthorAID as a whole.
The resource is a free online course titled “OpenKnowledge”. It is offered through Stanford University. According to its homepage, this course
provides an introduction to the important concept of openness from a variety of perspectives, including education, publishing, librarianship, economics, politics, and more, and asks you to discover what it means to you.
The course is international and has instructors from Canada, Ghana, Mexico, and the United States. It will run from September 3 to December 12, 2014. Registrants can choose how much time per week they participate. Those completing the course will be eligible for a statement of accomplishment.
Examples of topics covered in this 13-week course include

- “Open Educational Resources: From Lesson Plans to Instructional Videos”
- “Archives, Databases, Encyclopedias: Evaluating Open Collections and Reference Sources”
- “Scholarly Publishing and Communications: Journals, Books, and Publication of Research”
