Resource of the Week #38: Two More Resources on Statistics etc

By Barbara Gastel | Dec. 29, 2011

Hello again. As you may recall, the most recent Resource of the Week was an openly accessible textbook of statistics.

In response to the post on this resource, 2 readers told me of other resources on statistics or related topics. I’ve decided to make these additional resources our new Resource of the Week.

The first additional resource is the 9th edition of the book Statistics at Square One. I had read—and liked—an earlier (printed) edition of this book. But I hadn’t known that the 9th edition was openly accessible.

Statistics at Square One is an easy-to-understand introduction to basic statistics (and some not-so-basic statistics). Although the emphasis is medical, the core content also applies to other fields.

More recent editions of this book are available for sale. However, the 9th edition still suffices for many uses.

The second additional resource is an annotated bibliography titled “Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Communicable Disease Control: Selected readings and references”.

This 5-page list of print resources, which is used by the World Health Organization (WHO) library, includes many classic works. More recent editions of some of the listed works might now be available.

Many thanks to those who shared these resources!

Until the next post— Barbara
