Resource of the Week #161: Two Resource Sets on Doing and Communicating Research
Hello again. This week’s resource is a pair of guides from the University of the Witwatersrand Library, Johannesburg, South Africa. One guide is mainly on scholarly research and writing. The other is mainly on scholarly publishing.
Each guide consists of a webpage with tabs linking to sets of resources on various topics. Many of the tabs include sub-sections.
In the guide on scholarly research and writing, tabs that might especially interest AuthorAID community members include
- the introduction tab (which has sub-sections on ethics, reference citation, funding, and other topics)
- the tab on the research process (which has sub-sections on various topics, such as preparing research proposals, writing literature reviews, and managing data)
- the tab on writing about and presenting research (which has sub-sections on such topics as preparing abstracts, giving presentations, and writing up one’s research)
- the tab on critiquing research articles
- the tab on journal ranking and related topics
In the guide on scholarly publishing, tabs that may be of particular interest include those on authors’ rights, open access, and copyright. The 2 guides overlap somewhat; for instance, both link to resources on plagiarism.
Many thanks to INASP colleagues Peter Burnett and Julie Walker for suggesting 2 guides.
Until the next post—
