A Resource: "Tip of the Month"
Hello again. This week I’m preparing my blog posting early because I’ll be away from the computer most of the weekend.
My weekend plans include attending a presentation by Lawrence K Altman, medical writer for the newspaper The New York Times. Altman is receiving an award from the Southwest Chapter of the American Medical Writers Association. In case you’re interested: Some recent articles by Altman, who is a doctor, are available online.
Speaking of available online . . . This week I learned about a resource that can help researchers to communicate about their work. This resource is called “Medical Writing Tip of the Month”. Although “medical writing” appears in the title, many of the tips (pieces of advice) apply to writing or speaking about any kind of research.
“Medical Writing Tip of the Month” is a series of monthly articles in the journal Chest. The articles are by experts on the topics. Almost all the articles are openly accessible. I know—because I tried to access all 33 of these articles published thus far!
Here are some “Tip of the Month” topics that AuthorAID users might find of interest:
- Writing abstracts for conferences
- Preparing poster presentations
- Choosing an appropriate journal for your manuscript
- Writing in English as an international language
- Preparing manuscripts for online submission
Despite the title “Tip of the Month”, each article actually contains more than one tip (piece of advice). A helpful resource!
