Plans of an AuthorAID Travel Grantee

By Barbara Gastel | Apr. 07, 2014

Greetings again. I hope that all is going well for you.

The 34th Annual Symposium on Sea Turtle Biology and Conservation begins April 10 (this Thursday) and runs through April 17. Perhaps you’re wondering why I’m mentioning this. The reason: A researcher will attend this symposium with support of an AuthorAID travel grant.

The researcher receiving this grant is Dr. Lalith Ekanayake, a specialist in marine turtles. Dr. Ekanayake is a scientist at the Bio Conservation Society, Kandy, Sri Lanka. He has studied sea turtles for almost 20 years.

The symposium, which will have participants from around the world, will be in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. At the symposium, Dr. Ekanayake will present a poster on “Exploitation or Conservation? Plan to license sea turtle hatcheries in Sri Lanka comes under fire”.

Also at the symposium, Dr. Ekanayake will chair the Indian Ocean South East Asia regional meeting. This meeting will be a chance to share information on recent research and conservation activities in this region, which has more than 30 countries.

Recently 2 researchers were chosen for AuthorAID travel grants, and 2 were chosen for AuthorAID workshop grants. Information on the workshop grant recipients will appear later. Because of exceptional personal circumstances, the second person chosen for a travel grant could not accept it. Therefore the next round of AuthorAID grants will include an extra travel grant.

We wish Dr. Ekanayake a very successful time at the symposium, and we look forward to hearing about his experience.

Until the next post—

Barbara
