By Barbara Gastel | Feb. 02, 2014

[This post is from Dr. Devendra Adhikari, professor of physics at the Mahendra Morang Adarsha Multiple Campus of Tribhuvan University, Biratnagar, Nepal. Thanks, Dr. Adhikari, for staying so active in AuthorAID! —Barbara]

On January 4, 2014, we held an AuthorAID workshop on research writing and publishing. The workshop was held in Biratnagar. I was the facilitator of the workshop. Prof. L.N. Jha gave the inaugural speech and explained the importance of research writing and publishing.

Prof. Ashok Kumar, Prof. Parasuram Mishra, Dr. I.S. Jha, and Dr. Raju Khanal shared their research experience with the participants. Dr. Ajaya Bhattrai gave a presentation on proposal writing. I gave a presentation on publishing journal articles, and Dr. Narayan Prasad Adhikari presented material on ethics of research publication.

In all, 18 participants attended the workshop. Their fields were physics, chemistry, and biology. Of them, 5 were PhD scholars, 5 were MSc students pursuing dissertations, and the rest were teachers. The participants actively took part in the discussion.

The program was organized by the Nepal Physical Society, Eastern Chapter.

[A note to readers from Barbara: I’m glad that some professional societies have been giving workshops based on AuthorAID materials. We hope that more such societies, as well as more universities and research institutes, will give such workshops.

Workshop organizers can use materials from the AuthorAID Resource Library. These materials include the slide set “Core Presentations on Research Communication”. The presentations in this set can be used directly or translated or otherwise adapted.]
