Resource of the Week #146: An AuthorAID Meta-Resource

By Barbara Gastel | Jan. 25, 2014

Hello again. This week’s resource was developed about a week ago for a workshop in Mexico City. Because this resource could also aid people not at the workshop, I’ve added it to the AuthorAID Resource Library. Here’s the story.

On January 13–24, UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) held a workshop on teaching academic writing to non-native English speakers. About 15 UNAM faculty members, from a variety of fields, attended.

Different guest speakers were present for different parts of the workshop. I was there for 2 days. My first day, I gave a talk on teaching students the structure of scientific papers. My second day, I gave a talk on 3 initiatives I’ve taken part in, including AuthorAID.

The attendees seemed quite interested in AuthorAID, and some of them registered for it immediately. Some said, though, that the AuthorAID Resource Library had so many resources that they didn’t know what to choose.

Therefore I prepared a handout listing and briefly describing some resources that might especially aid many people. This 3-page handout (“Some Key Resources from the AuthorAID Resource Library”) has now been posted, so it's openly accessible.

I hope that some of you find this resource helpful.

Until the next post—

Barbara
