From the BELS and CSE Meetings
Greetings again. I’m now in Nairobi, Kenya, to facilitate some workshops.
Shortly before this trip, I was in Seattle, a city in the northwestern United States. (Yes, I’ve been traveling more than usual. Between our semesters is a good time to do so.)
I was in Seattle for the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences (BELS) annual membership meeting and the Council of Science Editors (CSE) annual meeting.
BELS, which has a dinner meeting each year during the CSE meeting, had asked me to be its speaker. I’m glad that it asked me to talk about AuthorAID.
The BELS members at the dinner seemed very interested in AuthorAID. Some expressed interest in becoming AuthorAID mentors. Others said they might provide materials for the AuthorAID Resource Library.
At the CSE meeting, there were at least several attendees from developing countries. Of them, 4 (3 from Nigeria and 1 from Nepal) had received CSE scholarships to attend the meeting.
Among the CSE sessions that I especially enjoyed were one on research writing in China, those at the session “Helping Novice and International Authors to Publish”, and those at the session “Mentorship in Scientific Editing”.
Materials from some CSE sessions have been posted on the CSE website. Others might be posted later.
As usual, the BELS and CSE meetings were excellent chances to network. They also were fine chances to learn of resources. As you might have seen, I’m featuring some of these resources as Resources of the Week.
Until the next post—
Barbara
