Celebrating Some Special 5's

By Barbara Gastel | Jul. 02, 2012

Greetings again. I hope you’re doing well.

In this post, I’m pleased to recognize 3 milestones marked by 5's.

First, a few days ago the AuthorAID website had its 5,000th registrant. I’m glad that more than 5,000 people have now officially joined the AuthorAID community.

Second, AuthorAID began in 2007 and so is celebrating its 5th birthday this year. Happy birthday, AuthorAID!

And third, last week we began the 5th annual Texas A&M University intensive course in research writing. I’ve now posted in the AuthorAID Resource Library the main slides from the first week. Major topics this week included

  • deciding when and where to submit a paper
  • approaching a writing project
  • writing the methods section
  • writing the results section
  • preparing tables and figures
  • citing references
  • preparing and giving poster presentations and oral presentations
  • writing the discussion section

Later this month, I plan to post the main slides from the other 2 weeks of the course.

Researchers from a variety of countries are attending the intensive course. There are several attendees from Mexico. Among other countries with attendees are Bangladesh, China, and Zimbabwe.

Our attendee from Zimbabwe is Joshua Mbanga, who has an AuthorAID grant to attend the course. (Congratulations again, Josh!) We hope to include a guest blog post from him.

Unfortunately, the other grant recipient could not attend, as he was unable to obtain the needed official approvals in time. We hope, however, that he will join us next year.

Until the next post—

Barbara
