Guest Post: Participants from Maseno University Share Lessons Learnt with Colleagues
[This post is from Charles Onyango, a PhD student at Maseno University in Kenya. Thanks very much, Charles! —Barbara]
In collaboration with the Pan Africa Chemistry Network (PACN), AuthorAID at INASP held a research-communication workshop at the University of Nairobi, Kenya, on 4–6 June 2012. The aim of the workshop was to improve participants’ skills in
- Scientific writing
- Publication of journal articles
- Oral and poster presentations
- Research grant application
The participants included young and mid-career researchers drawn from throughout Kenya. The trainer was Prof. Barbara Gastel.
On 13 July 2012, the participants from Maseno University shared with colleagues the lessons learnt during the workshop. This was a one-day activity attended by 10 research group members drawn from the chemistry and soil science departments. The participants included MSc and PhD students and a lecturer (PhD holder).
The colleagues were very happy, as they were able to make up what they had missed. They appreciated all the topics since these topics were relevant to their research work. We believe the training will go a long way in enabling researchers to conduct their work and publish the findings.
Thank you, AuthorAID and PACN, for the sponsorship. May you sponsor other similar trainings in the future.
Thank you, Prof. Barbara, for the excellent training.
