Back from Ghana
Greetings again. A few days ago I returned from Ghana. I spoke at 2 workshops there: one on health reporting and one on research writing. The visit showed how by working together, groups can achieve more with fewer resources.
The main purpose of my trip was to facilitate an AuthorAID research writing workshop November 24 and 25. This workshop was just after the 1st PACN (Pan Africa Chemistry Network) Congress on Agricultural Productivity.
About 25 chemists from throughout Africa attended the AuthorAID workshop. The attendees were chosen from among participants in the Congress. I was very impressed with the attendees, who asked many excellent questions.
The presentations from this workshop now appear in the AuthorAID Resource Library. I thank those from the PACN, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and Syngenta who joined AuthorAID in organizing, supporting, and facilitating the workshop.
Ghana is the home country of AuthorAID graduate assistant Bernard Appiah. Bernard had been planning to facilitate a health reporting workshop there for a project funded by the Wellcome Trust.
After learning the dates of the AuthorAID workshop, Bernard and his colleagues decided to schedule their workshop just beforehand. That way, I could be a co-facilitator at their workshop, and Bernard could be a co-facilitator at the AuthorAID workshop.
So, the Health Reporting Workshop for Health Professionals and Journalists was held November 21 and 22; a train-the-trainer workshop followed on November 23. The participants had many good discussions. I’ve added my presentations from this workshop to the AuthorAID Resource Library.
Wishing you a good week— Barbara
