Back from Pakistan
Greetings again. I hope that May has started well for you.
I just returned from Lahore, Pakistan. I was there, along with Sioux Cumming from INASP, on behalf of AuthorAID.
First we participated in the IADSR International Conference 2012. This conference was titled “Fundamentals of Conducting & Reporting Research: Biological, Pharmaceutical, Medical & Dental Sciences”. It was organized by the Institute for Advancement of Dental Sciences & Research.
At the conference, Sioux gave an excellent presentation about INASP, with particular emphasis on AuthorAID. I gave 4 presentations: “Preparing Oral Presentations and Poster Presentations”, “Approaching a Writing Project”, “Choosing a Journal and Publishing an Article”, and “Writing Review Articles and Case Reports”.
Several hundred people—including many students—registered for the conference. Therefore it was an especially good opportunity to tell people about AuthorAID and to disseminate information about communicating research.
Three AuthorAID workshops followed the conference. They were
- a half-day workshop on preparing oral and poster presentations
- a 1-day workshop titled “All About Writing Theses and Dissertations”
- a 1-day workshop titled “Writing a Journal Article: Section by Section”
These workshops, which were for smaller groups, included exercises and lots of discussion. They therefore allowed participants to explore topics in more depth.
As some of you might have seen, my PowerPoint presentations from the conference and workshops now appear in the AuthorAID Resource Library:

At the beginning and end of our visit, we did some sightseeing in beautiful, historic Lahore. We thank our hosts for being so hospitable throughout our stay.
Wishing you a good week—
