Resource of the Week #56: Poster-Evaluation Checklists—and More

By Barbara Gastel | May. 04, 2012

Hello again. A few days ago, at a workshop that I gave in Pakistan, someone mentioned seeking a checklist to use in evaluating poster presentations.

Some Internet searching led me to a website that includes links to checklists for this purpose. The site, which is titled Creating Effective Poster Presentations, also contains other guidance.

The links are in the resources section of the website. They appear in the part of this section titled Evaluating Poster Presentations.

Other items on the website include

  • a quick-reference brochure on preparing poster presentations
  • a brief PowerPoint presentation on giving poster presentations (To access it, see the resources section.)
  • guidance on preparing an abstract to submit when seeking opportunity to present a poster
  • advice on a various aspects of preparing a poster (for example: layout, headings, graphics, text, and colors)
  • guidelines for presenting the poster
  • examples of posters, plus comments on them

Here’s some of the good advice from this website: “Get your message across with effective visual displays of data and small blocks of supporting text. Think of your poster as an illustrated abstract.”

If you will prepare or evaluate posters, I encourage you to look at this website.

Until the next post— Barbara
