Online Course in Research Writing: Environmental Health
We are pleased to announce the first AuthorAID online course in writing up environmental health research for publication. This course is a modified version of our existing research writing course, and we have developed it in collaboration with Blacksmith Institute, an international non-profit organization dedicated to solving pollution problems in low and middle-income countries.
This course is open to early-career researchers focusing on heavy metals, pesticides, radionuclides, dioxins, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and other severe and persistent toxins.
Researchers focusing on the following are NOT eligible for this course: greenhouse gases or climate change impacts, adaptation or vulnerability; ambient air pollution; sewage and non-toxic municipal waste; biological or chemical oxygen demand (BOD and COD); noise pollution; and pollution which has no potential human health impact, or for which there is no pathway to humans.
To be eligible for the course, researchers must be citizens of, and research must relate to countries in WHO Mortality Stratum B-E (http://www.who.int/whr/2003/en/member_states_182-184_en.pdf).
The 5-week course will run from April 1 to May 5, 2013, and is entirely online. There is no cost to apply or participate. Participants are expected to complete online lessons, engage in online discussion with classmates, and complete two short assignments including an abstract writing assignment. Successful participants will receive a completion certificate.
The application deadline is February 28, 2013. Successful applicants will be notified by March 15, and they will be given an enrollment key to join the course.
