Resource of the Week #57: Practical Guides from SciDev.Net
Hello again. Recently I learned of some articles that can help researchers communicate with policymakers and the public. I’m now featuring these articles as our Resource of the Week.
These articles are from SciDev.Net—the Science and Development Network. SciDev.Net describes itself as “a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to providing reliable and authoritative information about science and technology for the developing world”.
If you’ve looked at the News section of the AuthorAID website, perhaps you’ve seen links to SciDev.Net articles. The links appear on the upper left of the page.
From time to time, SciDev.Net has communication-related articles titled Practical Guides. Some Practical Guides articles are mainly for researchers, and some are mainly for journalists or public-information professionals. Currently 20 Practical Guides articles are available.
Some titles of Practical Guides articles are
- How to publicize scientific research
- Making science count in policy
- How to report a disease outbreak or pandemic
- How to run a successful science outreach event
- How scientists can reach out with social media
- Beyond press releases: How to dig up science stories
- How to tell policymakers about scientific uncertainty
Many of the articles are available in English, French, and Spanish.
Thank you, SciDev.Net!
Until the next post— Barbara
