Resource of the Week #65: The EASE Guidelines for Authors and Translators

By Barbara Gastel | Jul. 08, 2012

Hello again. Our current Resource of the Week is the 2012 edition of a guide from the European Association of Science Editors (EASE). The guide is titled EASE Guidelines for Authors and Translators of Scientific Articles to Be Published in English.

The first edition of the guide appeared in 2010. A guest post from EASE announced it, and a link to the guide was added to the AuthorAID Resource Library. At that time, the guide was available in English and 7 other languages.

The 2012 edition is available in 20 languages: Arabic, Bangla, Bosnian, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, English, Estonian, French, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Romanian, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish.

The main part of the guide gives advice for ensuring that scientific papers are complete, concise, and clear. There also are several appendices; topics include key elements of abstracts, expressions that can be simplified or deleted, and differences between British and American spelling.

The guide contains a useful list of references and further reading. I was glad to see the AuthorAID Resource Library listed. Because AuthorAID is early in the alphabet, it appeared first!

Until the next post—

Barbara
