Greetings from Sri Lanka

By Barbara Gastel | Mar. 14, 2010

Greetings from Sri Lanka! I arrived here yesterday. While here I’ll be leading an AuthorAID workshop, attending an AuthorAID project meeting, and speaking at an INASP editorial workshop.

Joining me here is the AuthorAID graduate assistant, Bernard Appiah. Bernard will be one of the co-facilitators for the workshop. He’ll also take part in the AuthorAID project meeting.

At the AuthorAID workshop, 2 Sri Lankan researchers will be the primary co-facilitators. One, Professor Kalinga Tudor Silva, will help with the sessions on writing and publishing scientific papers. The other, Dr S Mahakalanda, will help with the sessions on writing grant proposals. I appreciate their having agreed to share their expertise.

In one or more future blog posts, I plan to tell you more about the workshop. I also plan to provide links to the PowerPoint presentations, which will appear in the AuthorAID Resource Library. Maybe I’ll share some photos of Sri Lanka—a very beautiful country.

The AuthorAID workshop will run Monday through Friday of this week. Then the AuthorAID project meeting will be Monday and Tuesday of next week.

At the project meeting, several of us who help develop and deliver the AuthorAID project will work on further plans for it. In preparing these plans, we’ll use feedback and suggestions from the recent evaluation of AuthorAID. Again, many thanks to those who provided feedback or suggestions.

I still must finish preparing for the workshop, and so I’ll end this blog post. Wishing you an excellent week! –Barbara
