Resource of the Week #71: Some E-Resources on Doing Research
Hello again. Our current Resource of the Week was mentioned by AuthorAID team member Ravi Murugesan.
This resource is an online essay titled “How to Do Research”. The author is Arunn Narasimhan, a faculty member at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. The resource includes many links to other writings on the topic.
Before noting an excellent article that this essay listed, let me make 2 confessions:
- First, I confess that I had trouble understanding an analogy near the start of the essay. Eventually I realized that the analogy came from cricket—a game that usually isn’t played in the United States, where I live.
- Second, I confess that I looked at only some of the writings to which links were provided.
Of the writings that the essay mentioned, one that I read and especially liked is “A Student’s Guide to Research”. This article is by Dennis S. Bernstein, a professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Michigan in the United States. It is very easy to read, and it contains much good advice.
For links to more of the writings and to a video, please see the essay.
Thank you, Ravi, for mentioning the online essay.
Until the next post—
Barbara
