Resource of the Week #52: Some Sample Recommendation Letters
Hello again. As you may recall, a recent AuthorAID blog post provided advice on writing recommendation letters.
The post described a structure for recommendation letters. In a comment, an AuthorAID community member wrote, “May I have a sample recommendation letter of this type, please.”
I’ve now added to the AuthorAID Resource Library 2 sample recommendations. The recommendations are fictional, to avoid violating confidentiality. However, the structure, type of content, and tone are suitable at least for recommendations in the United States.
Some norms for recommendations differ among countries. For example, US recommendations tend to have a more positive tone than those in some other countries. Therefore, it may be helpful to find out the relevant local norms.
As you may see, I’ve written comments on the sample recommendation letters. To do so, I’ve used the New Comment feature in the Review section of Microsoft Word.
Is it helpful to have such comments? Do you want samples of other types of writing, also with comments in such a format? If so, what types of writing would you like samples of?
Please tell me by posting a comment or by contacting me through AuthorAID.
Until next time— Barbara
