Resource of the Week #124: Some Annotated Grant Applications and More

By Barbara Gastel | Aug. 24, 2013

Hello again. As you may recall, last week’s Resource of the Week was an annotated journal article. This week’s resource is a set of annotated grant applications (grant proposals) and related items.

Links to these excellent grant applications appear on a webpage titled Sample Applications and Summary Statements. For each grant application except the last, one can access an annotated copy by clicking on “Full Application”. I suggest being patient, as the files can take a while to download.

The annotations appear in yellow “comment bubbles” on parts of the applications. If you place your cursor over a bubble or click on it, you can read the comment in it.

The webpage also has links to summary statements (reports on the peer review of the grant applications). Looking at the applications, annotations, and summary statements can be educational.

The webpage is from the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Although the applications are for medical research, they can be partial models for proposals for other research.

Likewise, principles from the comments and summary statements apply to writing proposals in a variety of fields. I hope that many of you find this resource helpful.

Until the next post—

Barbara
