Congratulations, and Continuing Thanks, to Our Spanish-Language Translator

Greetings again. I hope you’re doing well.

Fall-semester graduation ceremonies took place here the end of last week. (At Texas A&M University, we have graduations in December, May, and August.) Those graduating included Alejandra (Alex) Arreola Triana.

Some of you probably recognize Alex’s name. Alex has done almost all the Spanish-language translations for the AuthorAID website. Her work has included translating nearly 300 AuthorAID blog posts, as well as some other materials.

Alex’s work was crucial in creating the Spanish-language version of the AuthorAID website. As some of you may recall, this version became available in June 2011.

I appreciate how efficiently Alex translates blog posts. When a blog post is ready, I tell Alex. Then, within a day or two, Alex completes the translation. When she says the translation is ready, I release the English and Spanish versions of the post.

Last Friday, Alex received her master’s degree in science and technology journalism. I was glad that her parents and some close friends could attend the graduation.

In the master’s program, Alex took courses in science reporting, science editing, science, and related fields. She also did a science-communication internship as part of the program.

Now Alex is returning home to Mexico, at least for a while. Her work there will entail editing and translation at a university. I’m glad that, in addition, she’ll still do translations for AuthorAID.
