Congratulations to the New Workshop Grant Recipients
Greetings again. I hope that all is going well for you.
AuthorAID is pleased to announce the most recent recipients of its workshop grants. They are Dr. Bach Tran, of Hanoi Medical University (in Vietnam), and Mrs. Noris Isabel Lopez, of Universidad Tecnológica de El Salvador (in El Salvador).
Dr. Tran, who is a lecturer in public health, will lead a 3-day workshop titled “Advanced Training Workshop on Writing a Scientific Paper for Publication”. This workshop will be for about 30 junior faculty members and research students from his university and Vietnamese national research institutes.
Senior faculty members with strong publication records will co-facilitate this workshop. Dr. Tran plans to convert the workshop into a Web-based module containing materials in Vietnamese, thus multiplying the impact. Also, the participants might have some work before and after the workshop.
Mrs. Lopez, who is research vice chancellor at her university, proposed an 8-day workshop titled “Proficiency in Knowledge and Analysis of Scientific Information Sources and Writing Scientific Communications”. About 30 participants, from about 10 institutions, will attend.
This workshop will address a variety of aspects of research communication. Among them are the following: literature searching, use of the reference-management software Zotero, use of Web 2.0 tools for collaborative work, critical reading of the scientific literature, use of the IMRAD format (Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion), and design of research posters.
We congratulate Dr. Tran and Mrs. Lopez, and we commend all who took the initiative to apply for these grants.
Until the next post—
Barbara
