Resource of the Week #102: A Collection of Free Online Courses

By Barbara Gastel | Mar. 24, 2013

Hello again. This week’s resource is a collection of free online courses and classes. Someone at INASP mentioned this resource. (As you may know, AuthorAID is a project of INASP.)

This resource, called OnlineCourses.com, currently includes more than 500 courses. The courses are from universities in a variety of countries. Some are from internationally famous universities such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The courses are grouped in more than 20 subject areas. Some of the areas that might interest many AuthorAID members are writing, statistics, languages, and information technology. Among the other areas are various fields of science.

In general, the courses seem to be ones that people can take independently, at their own pace. The resource allows one to create course lists and track one’s progress.

Different courses in OnlineCourses.com include different types, or combinations, of materials. Some of the courses have videos or audio recordings. Some have reading materials. Some have exercises or other items.

I’m thankful to the person who mentioned this resource. Do you have sources to suggest? If so, please send me a message through the AuthorAID website or contact me at bgastel@cvm.tamu.edu.

Until the next post—

Barbara
