Resource of the Week #113: Another Type of Resource—Vacation

By Barbara Gastel | Jun. 10, 2013

Hello again. Greetings from Oxford, England. I’m here for meetings at INASP, which oversees AuthorAID.

In recent weeks, I’ve done lots of work-related travel. This travel has included attending the Council of Science Editors (CSE) annual meeting, facilitating a workshop in Sri Lanka, and now taking part in meetings at INASP.

There also was other travel: Last month my husband and I took a trip to Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park. The scenery was excellent, and the trip was relaxing. We greatly enjoyed this vacation.

Why am I mentioning a vacation in a Resource of the Week post? Because vacation is a resource too. Many members of the AuthorAID community work very hard. A vacation can help one regain one’s energy and one’s perspective.

Our few days of vacation came after an especially busy semester. After our vacation, I was more rested and had renewed enthusiasm for my work.

I hope that many of you have taken vacations recently or can take vacations soon. Even if you can’t take a real vacation, take a break from your work from time to time. Afterward, you may find yourself more resource-ful.

Until the next post—

Barbara
