Starting Soon: Intensive Course in Research Writing

By Barbara Gastel | Jun. 27, 2011

Greetings again. I hope you’re doing well.

The fourth annual Texas A&M Intensive Course in Research Writing will begin this Monday (June 27). The course will last 3 weeks. Afterward, participants can stay an extra week to work more on their papers.

Researchers from several countries will take the course.

Originally the course, which Mexican faculty member Dr Roberto Tuda Rivas helps organize, was for Mexican researchers. This year, in addition to attendees from Mexico, we have an attendee from Brazil, one from China, and one from Sri Lanka.

Also, several Texas A&M graduate students will take the course. Some are originally from the United States, and some are from elsewhere.

As you might recall, the Sri Lankan attendee, Dr Haroon Mohamed Haniffa, is the recipient of the AuthorAID scholarship to attend this course. Information about Dr Haroon appeared in an earlier blog post.

Many people applied for the scholarship to attend this course. Because there was so much interest, I promised to post materials from the course.

I’ve now posted a final, or nearly final, version of the course syllabus. I’ll also post my main PowerPoint slides from each session. I hope to do so shortly after each session.

Using the syllabus and slides, you can take this course yourself. (An idea: Perhaps read the slides with one or more colleagues and do the exercises together.) You also can use these materials to give courses or workshops for others.

Hoping you’ll “join us”— Barbara
