Guest Post: A Grant-Supported Workshop in Rwanda

By Barbara Gastel | Oct. 26, 2012

[This post arrived a few days ago from Berthilde Uwamwezi, director of the library at INES-Ruhengeri in Rwanda. Mrs. Uwamwezi recently received an AuthorAID workshop grant. Thanks very much for this post, and congratulations on the workshop! —Barbara]

It is my pleasure to write expressing my deep-felt appreciation for the grant given to me. We have achieved a lot with regard to the purpose of the proposal that I submitted requesting a grant.

As I write now, a 2-day AuthorAID workshop on proposal writing (held October 18–19) has just ended. I acknowledge your funding because it has enabled researchers and librarians in Rwanda to acquire knowledge and skills on proposal writing. In collaboration with my institution’s authorities, the intended workshop activities have been promptly accomplished.

The workshop sessions were practical and interactive, with discussions among the facilitator and participants. The participants were librarians and lecturers on research methods. In total, there were 24 participants (including the facilitation group).

The participants came from 6 institutions:

  1. ISAE (Institut Supérieur d’Agriculture et Elevage)
  2. INES-Ruhengeri (Institut d’Enseignement Supérieur de Ruhengeri)
  3. IPB (Institut Polytechnique de Byumba)
  4. ULK/Gisenyi (Université Libre de Kigali/Gisenyi Campus)
  5. RDF CSC (Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College)
  6. UP (Umutara Polytechnic)

It is my pleasure to note that this workshop is an immediate seedling of the workshop that AuthorAID held on 7 to 10 June 2011 at the INASP headquarters in Rwanda.

Thanks!
