Grant Proposals: A Workshop and an Opportunity

By Barbara Gastel | Oct. 24, 2011

Greetings again. I hope that all is going well for you.

A few days ago I returned from facilitating an AuthorAID workshop on writing grant proposals. This 4-day workshop was at the National University of Rwanda. I enjoyed visiting beautiful Rwanda again.

My co-facilitator for the workshop was the AuthorAID training coordinator, Ravi Murugesan. Special thanks to Ravi and to everyone else who helped organize and give the workshop.

Like other AuthorAID workshops, this one included presentations and small-group sessions. The presentations have now been added to the AuthorAID Resource Library. They include

    • a presentation by Ravi on effective writing style for proposals
    • a presentation in which AuthorAID graduate assistant Bernard Appiah gives proposal-writing advice based on his experience reviewing grant proposals (Bernard gave his presentation remotely, via Skype.)
    • 2 presentations from the International Foundation for Science (IFS), an AuthorAID partner that funds research (Because an IFS representative couldn’t attend, we gave the presentations that IFS had sent.)
    • 9 basic presentations on aspects of preparing a grant proposal

I hope that many of you will read one or more of these presentations. Of course, feel free to use the content in teaching.

And now there’s a new chance to use the advice on preparing proposals: AuthorAID grants to speak at conferences and hold workshops are becoming available. The deadline for applying is July 31.

To learn how to apply for these new grants, please see the funding section of the AuthorAID website.

Wishing you a good week— Barbara
