Thank You to All Contributors in 2024!
Thank you very much to all Rising Scholars contributors in 2024! The thriving Rising Scholars community is made possible by its members and contributors. There are so many different ways to get involved in Rising Scholars. Whether you are a totally new contributor, or have been contributing over many years, we are always excited to see the variety of ways in which you bring your experience and knowledge to interesting topics being shared with the community.
In 2024, we ran two open courses (known as MOOCs); our ever popular Getting Started with Writing and Publishing Your Research course, and a new course, Engaged Research for Community and Policy Impact. The open courses are facilitated courses and require many dedicated researchers to provide facilitation through the forums and in the live sessions. We could not run the open courses without our excellent team of facilitators – thank you!
Our live events, through webinars and Tea Times, have been well attended (1576 attendees!) and appreciated by the community. Thank you to hosts for superbly presenting a variety of topics. Topics included ‘Open Peer Review’; ‘The Ultimate Guide to Online Journal Clubs’; ‘Challenges of Attending Global North Conferences’; and ‘Smart Use of AI Tools’. Excitingly, we also had our first French and Spanish language events in 2024! Check out the Rising Scholars YouTube page here to watch recordings of past events.
Our blog is a fantastic avenue to practice good writing and to share your experience with other researchers. 2024 saw a wide range of content, from new and returning contributors. We had blog posts talking about attending online conferences; the power of statistical learning; crafting book reviews; World Bee Day; experience of remote mentorship; the role of preprints; time management; choosing data repositories; and many other useful topics! You can read all the blog posts here.
New for 2024 was the addition of video content. This is on-demand learning, offering an extra and convenient way for members to access Rising Scholars content. The videos ranged from how to create an academic paper outline with Paperpal (which has over 13k views!), to why you should attend an international conference, to choosing a journal for publishing your research. You can find these videos on our YouTube page.
Our mentoring platform is hugely popular, and we understand the importance and value of having a mentor. Prospective mentors apply to be a mentor, and once approved, they can receive requests from members. You can search our member database here and read more about mentoring through Rising Scholars here.
A special thank you to our Stewards! The Rising Scholars Stewards play an important role in strategic direction, content development and administration of initiatives, in collaboration with the team at INASP. Stewards are crucial leaders in the community, contributing in all the ways listed here and many more ways behind the scenes.
Why not become a contributor in 2025? No matter your experience level, we believe that you as an early career researcher have something important to share with your peers that they could learn from.
If you would like to contribute by writing a blog post, please go to this page to read the submission guidelines, or get in touch with Alex at alex.arreola@inasp.info, or for a live event or video contributor, please get in touch with Aastha at aastha.subedi@inasp.info. For MOOC facilitators, please make sure you are subscribed to the Rising Scholars email alerts – we announce upcoming open courses through our blog, and the posts include an application form for facilitators. Please also check out our ‘Getting Involved’ page. If you would like to be a mentor, you must amend your Rising Scholars profile to ‘apply to mentor’. You should write in the relevant profile box why you wish to be a mentor and how you are qualified. You can email us at risingscholars@inasp.info for any questions about any of the contributing options.
A huge thank you once again to all the people listed below. Your support and contributions enable Rising Scholars to go from strength to strength, and we hope to welcome you as contributors again this year.
