Announcement (Part 1): Recipients of Grants to Attend Summer Course

By Barbara Gastel | Feb. 25, 2012

Greetings again. And our thanks to all who applied for AuthorAID grants to attend the summer 2012 intensive course in research writing.

We are pleased to announce the 2 recipients of these grants.

More than 100 people applied for these grants. Many of the applications were excellent, and we wish more such grants were available.

The selection committee spent many hours reviewing and discussing the applications. After much careful thought, it decided on two recipients. They are (in alphabetical order):

    • Daniel Limonta, MD, from Cuba
    • Joshua Mbanga, from Zimbabwe

Congratulations to the recipients!

Information about Dr. Limonta appears below. The next post (which will be released right away) will include information about Mr. Mbanga.

Dr. Limonta specializes in research on dengue, an important mosquito-transmitted viral disease. He has been a PhD student in virology since 2007 and is scheduled to finish his dissertation soon.

After the course, Dr. Limonta plans to apply what he learned both to his own writing and to his work as an associate editor of a journal.

Dr. Limonta states:

I am very pleased to receive the grant to attend the AuthorAID 2012 Summer Research Writing Course at Texas A&M University in the USA. I think it is a fantastic opportunity to gain more knowledge on the art of research writing. It is also an honor to the Cuban research institution, Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK), where I work as a virology researcher.

Thank you, Dr. Limonta.

Until Part 2— Barbara
