Resource of the Week #75: A Poster on Publication Ethics—in 11 Languages
Hello again. Many resources now exist to help researchers avoid ethical problems when writing and publishing journal articles. This week and next, our Resources of the Week will be resources on this topic.
This week’s resource is a poster titled “What You Need to Know about Ethical Issues When Writing a Scientific Paper”. This poster is available in in Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, Greek, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish.
This poster focuses on what it terms “the most common ethical problems found in scientific papers”. These problems are
- plagiarism
- duplicate publication
- redundant publication
- falsification and fabrication
- figure manipulation
- human and animal welfare issues
- conflict of interest
- authorship problems
The poster defines each problem. It then briefly provides advice on how to avoid the problem.
This poster is from the American Physiological Society. Researchers wanting more information on topics in the poster can read the ethical policies posted by this society.
