Resource of the Week #73: A Resource for Biblical Scholars

By Barbara Gastel | Sep. 01, 2012

Hello again. Our current Resource of the Week is one that AuthorAID team member Julie Walker asked me to feature. I was interested to learn of this resource, which is in a field very different from mine.

This resource is a set of research tools from the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL). According to the SBL website, the mission of the SBL "is to foster biblical scholarship”.

Perhaps of particular relevance to AuthorAID, the set of research tools includes resources for writing. One of these resources is a collection of fonts “for use with biblical and ancient languages”. Another is a condensed guide that contains key points from the SBL Handbook of Style.

This condensed guide is intended primarily for students, but it also can aid others. Helpfully, it includes many examples.

The set of research tools also includes a group of links to content useful in biblical research. One link, for example, is to a searchable archive containing reviews of more than 3000 books in biblical studies.

By the way, I enjoyed seeing that the SBL homepage includes the word welcome in several languages.

Thank you, Julie, for noting this resource.

Until the next post—

Barbara
