Resource of the Week #5: On Ethics
Hello! This week I’m featuring 2 resources on publication ethics. I’m also mentioning another resource from the organization that prepared one of these resources.
The first resource, Publishing Ethics 101: A Guide for the Editorial Office, includes basic information on ethics in writing and publishing. Although this guide is mainly for editors, it also can help authors.
This guide will be openly accessible until May 26. Then it will be available only to members of the International Society of Managing and Technical Editors (ISMTE), which produced it. So, if you'd like to see this resource, I suggest viewing it now.
The ISMTE website also has a section, ISMTE Resource Central, that will remain openly accessible. The parts that authors might find most helpful are the glossary of publishing terms and the links to other resources.
Finally, let me note an ethics article that was recently mentioned in the AuthorAID discussion list. This article, by AuthorAID community member Natasha Das and Monica Panjabi, is about plagiarism.
Although primarily for medical writers, this article also can aid authors in other fields. The part on types of plagiarism and the tips for avoiding plagiarism seem especially helpful.
Until the next post— Barbara
