Peer Review Week Coming Soon
Greetings again. I hope you’re doing well.
As you may know, Peer Review Week 2016 runs from 19 to 25 September. This year the theme of Peer Review Week is Recognition for Review. I’m releasing this blog post a few days before Peer Review Week in case you’d like to plan ways to recognize reviewers.
So, how can you recognize reviewers? Here are a few ideas. Perhaps you’re already doing some of these.
- If you’re a journal editor: Send letters of recognition to excellent reviewers. Perhaps list reviewers in the journal or on its website. At a conference in your field, maybe hold a reception for reviewers.
- If you’re the author of an article or book: If peer reviewers have improved your work, thank them in the acknowledgments. (If reviewers’ identities are known and reviewers give permission, thank reviewers by name. Otherwise, you can thank “the anonymous reviewers”.)
- If you’re a peer reviewer: List your peer reviewing on your curriculum vitae (CV). For example, list journals, book publishers, and funders that you review for. When being considered for a salary increase or promotion, note your peer reviewing.
- If you’re a supervisor: When considering someone for a salary increase or promotion, give credit for peer reviewing.
- If you’re a researcher: If a colleague, student, professor, friend, relative, or other person has provided helpful feedback, take the initiative to say thanks—during Peer Review Week and at other times.
If you have suggestions for recognizing peer review, please post a comment. Also, for resources on peer review and its recognition, please see the Peer Review Week website.
Until the next post—
