Call for mentors: Healthcare and Medicine

Are you a senior researcher or editor who can provide mentoring support to up-and-coming researchers? Are you keen to share your knowledge of research writing and scholarly publishing? Would you like to develop your mentoring skills?

At AuthorAID we are continually looking for volunteer mentors across all subject areas, to provide support for early career researchers in developing countries.

This month we would like to particularly focus on recruiting mentors with an expertise in Healthcare and medicine.

What skills do mentors need?

We need mentors who can provide help with any the following:

• Article planning
• Refining writing style and language
• Using appropriate research methods and performing data analysis
• Choosing appropriate journals for submitting manuscripts
• Understanding the peer review process and responding to reviewers' comments
• Preparing presentations and posters
• Preparing grant proposals
• Academic career mentoring

Mentoring relationships can be short or long-term, and mentors and mentees have the option of signing a mentoring agreement to set out clear objectives for both parties.

So why be a mentor? Well not only are you doing your bit for global development and research, but we believe that mentoring is a worthwhile personal development process that can widen your perspective and add valuable skills to your CV such as mentoring experience, editing skills, and reviewing manuscripts.
