A Summer Course: Feel Free to Follow Along
Greetings again. I hope you’re doing well.
I’m now busy preparing to teach my annual intensive course in research writing. This year, the course runs from June 27 through July 15.
This course isn’t an AuthorAID course. However, this course and some AuthorAID courses include the same core material that I've prepared. Thus, they have some similar content.
The summer course is at Texas A&M University, where I teach. Researchers come from Mexico and elsewhere to attend. Some people have asked whether this course also is available online. My answer is, “Not really, but sort of.”
“Not really?” Some aspects of the course can’t easily be replicated online. These aspects include immersion full-time in the course, frequent one-on-one meetings with experts for feedback on writing, use of the university facilities, and some of the group interaction.
“But sort of?” As noted, AuthorAID online courses in research writing include some of the same core content as the intensive course. Also, the syllabus and main slides from the summer 2013 intensive course appear in the AuthorAID resource library.
This year, interested researchers also can follow along. I’ve now posted in the AuthorAID resource library the syllabus for this year’s course. I’ve also posted the main slides for the first day. Throughout the course, I’ll continue posting sets of slides.
Feel free to read each day’s slides as they appear. Perhaps you and others can read them together and discuss them. Feel free also to use these slides in your teaching. I hope that many of you will follow along.
Until the next post—
Barbara
