Resource of the Week #15: Some Presentations on ESL Topics, Abstracts, and Proofreading
Hello again! This time the Resource of the Week consists of guest presentations by Dr. Susan Aiello. Dr. Aiello joined us for the last main week of the Texas A&M Intensive Course in Research Writing.
Dr. Aiello, who is trained as a veterinarian, is a professional editor, writer, and instructor. She has received awards from the American Medical Writers Association. Currently she is president of the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences.
Dr. Aiello’s activities here included giving guest presentations in the intensive course. The presentations were on the following English-as-a-second-language topics:
- Verb Forms
- Verb Tenses and Verb-Tense Sequencing
- Modals
- Sentence Structure
- Articles and Connecting Words
- Developing an Academic Writing Style and Building English Vocabulary
Although these presentations were mainly for non-native speakers of English, they also can help native English speakers.
While here, Dr. Aiello also gave an open presentation titled “Writing the Scientific Abstract”. This excellent presentation attracted a large audience.
In addition, Dr. Aiello spoke in my science editing course. Her presentation was titled “Proofreading Tips and Techniques”.
Dr. Aiello’s presentations now appear in the AuthorAID Resource Library.
Thank you, Dr. Aiello!
Until the next post— Barbara
