- I recently developed an interest in Peatland because, Peat soils hold an estimated 650 billion tonnes of carbon – a carbon store that is equal in magnitude to the amount of carbon in the Earth’s vegetation, and more than half of the carbon in the atmosphere. Therefore consistent monitoring is required on the Niger Delta peatland due to recent oil spillage and the impact of climate change to prevent increased emissions and disaster risk.
